The Order of St. Martin de Porres
The Order of St. Martin de Porres is a call to go beyond belief into a life of faithful practice and advocacy.
The Rule of Life
Members of the Order (known as Oblates) are asked to pray two offices daily—the Morning Prayer (also known as Matins) and Evening Prayer (also known as Evensong).
Oblates of the Order should receive the Eucharist once a week. It is preferable that this be done in the context of the corporate worship service you attend.
Oblates are encouraged to fast once a month as physically able or to engage in some activity that will help them put God as the focus of their life.
Oblates of the Order are to meet with a Spiritual Director once a quarter. Spiritual Directors may be from within or outside the Order, and resources are available to help you find one.
The Order takes its name in honor of the “apostle of charity” St. Martin de Porres. As one of the first people of color to serve in the Dominican clergy, St. Martin de Porres was a pioneer in charitable efforts within Peru, serving the Dominicans since the age of 15, St. Martin de Porres dedicated his life towards serving and advocating for the less fortunate.
A DEDICATION TO ST. MARTIN DE PORRES
O God, who led Saint Martin de Porres by the path of humility to heavenly glory, grant that we may so follow his radiant example in this life as to merit to be exalted with him in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Almighty ever-living God, increase our faith, hope, and charity, and make us love what you command, so that we may merit what you promise. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
